With music sales struggling in recent years due to the popularity of streaming sites and music piracy, it seems like a crazy idea for a band to release a triple album. Finland’s Swallow the Sun have done just that with Songs from the North, with each disc showing off a different musical style and focus. I is what you’d expect from an Swallow the Sun album but II and III is where the quality lies. II is a mainly acoustic album with some beautiful songs and clean singing from Mikko Kotamäki, while III sees the band try their hand at funeral doom which is destructively dark.
