MUSIC REVIEW: Vile Regression – Cyclical (2016)

Band Name: Vile Regression (Ireland)
Release Name: Cyclical (Single)
Genre: Technical Death Metal / Metalcore

In February of this year we had the sad news that Vile Regression, one of Dublin’s most promising metal bands, had decided to call it a day. With the highly praised Empires E.P. under their belt and a string of successful support slots with the likes of Architects, Xerath and Fleshgod Apocalypse, they were definitely ones to watch.

‘Cyclical’ is the band’s final song to be released and touted by the band as an indication of their future direction. The first thing that jumps at you it how modern and precise it is in its approach, taking the best parts of Periphery, Meshuggah and Cynic. The guitars are crunchy when they’re chugging but clean when they break away for the jazzier, more progressive moments. Padraig Croke’s vocals have that raspy growl we’ve come to expect from him but also incorporating further clean melodic vocals in the chorus.

The track showed a lot of potential and growth for the band but sadly it was time for them to say their goodbyes. The bands statement and final track ‘Cyclical’ can be found below:

It is with regret that we announce that Vile Regression has come to an end.

Unfortunately we do not have the time or resources to commit to the bigger goals we were pursuing and we would rather not treat Vile Regression as a part time band.

As a parting gift we leave you with a newly recorded unreleased song, which we believe is the best we’ve recorded and an indication of the direction in which we were going. We really hope you enjoy it.

Special thanks to anyone who has ever supported our band, enjoyed our music or shared a stage with us over the last 8 years, it’s been an absolute pleasure. We’d also like to extend a big thank you to Michael Richards at Trackmix Recording Studio for doing such a great job with this song.”
