MUSIC REVIEW: Call to Arms – The Reaper Never Sleeps (2016)

The local Irish scene has been growing and growing in recent years with the younger bands now lining up to find their place. If you’ve been keeping up with the new breed of Irish bands then you’ll know that one name that sticks out is Dublin based Call to Arms. The young band formed in the summer of 2013 and since then have been relentless working to better themselves and have really made a name for themselves as a formidable live act gaining a rabid fan base.

MUSIC REVIEW: Trivium – Silence in the Snow (2015)

Trivium has always been a band who liked to switch up their music, with each album usually being a mix and match of heavy, thrash and metalcore. Their latest album Silence in the Snow is one that see’s vocalist Matt Heafy dropping the screaming completely along with all traces of metalcore. The result is one of their most melodic albums to date, with the music strongly rooted in traditional heavy and power metal.

LIVE REVIEW: Meshuggah at Vicar Street (Jan 18th 2017)

They say good things happen to those who wait, well after years of people begging and clamouring it was finally announced that metal giants Meshuggah would be making their return to Ireland more than 20 years since their last visit. The show was more than halfway sold out from just one day of ticket sales and had to be quickly upgraded, not something you hear too often with a metal show here.

LIVE REVIEW: Avenged Sevenfold at the 3Arena (Jan 7th 2017)

Avenged Sevenfold and Disturbed, two of the leading bands in the New Wave of American Heavy Metal movement have teamed up for a huge trek across Europe to support The Stage, the surprise seventh album from Avenged Sevenfold, dropped in October with little to no hype or promotion behind it. Dublin was lucky enough to be the first stop on this mammoth tour.

While the band had been working away for years with moderate success it was the release of their fourth album Black Waltz that Swedish metallers Avatar began to make a name for themselves. The wide range of musical influences combined with simple and effective beats made them a popular choice among younger fans.

LIVE REVIEW: Delain at the Button Factory

Tonight ends a long wait for melodic metallers Delain to finally grace our shores, and what a year to do it in. The band not only released their fifth album Moonbathers but they are also celebrating ten years since the release of their debut album Lucidity and the wild ride which that album set them up on.
